Tips for the Perfect Board Game Drinking Night 🎯
Setup
- Choose your chaos level. Scrabble for chill vibes. Drunk Jenga for maximum madness. Risk if you want to test friendships.
- Match drinks to game length. Beer/wine for long games (Monopoly, Risk). Cocktails/shots for short games (Connect Four, Checkers).
- Set up a drink station so nobody has to leave the table mid-game.
- Print the rules. Nobody’s going to remember drink triggers after round 3.
During Play
- Sip, don’t chug (unless the rules say otherwise). Board games are long.
- Water between games. Non-negotiable. Your future self will thank you.
- Food helps. Pizza, snacks, whatever. Just have something.
- Take breaks. Between games is a great time to reset, hydrate, and catch up.

FAQ
What are the best board games for drinking?
The best board games for drinking are Drunk Jenga, Uno, Monopoly, and Settlers of Catan. Jenga is the most popular because you can write custom rules on each block. Uno is great for larger groups, while Monopoly and Catan work well for longer strategic sessions.
How do you make Jenga into a drinking game?
Write a drinking rule on each Jenga block with a permanent marker (54 rules total). Rules can include “Take 2 sips,” “Truth or Drink,” “Waterfall,” “Never Have I Ever,” and “Finish Your Drink.” When you pull a block, you follow whatever rule is written on it. The person who topples the tower finishes their drink.
Can you play board game drinking games with non-drinkers?
Absolutely! Non-drinkers can substitute any “drink” trigger with alternatives: take a sip of a non-alcoholic beverage, eat a piece of candy, do 5 push-ups, or answer a truth question. The game mechanics work the same regardless of what’s in your glass.
What drinks work best for board game drinking nights?
For long games (Monopoly, Risk, Catan): stick to beer, wine, or light cocktails. For short games (Connect Four, Checkers): cocktails or mixed drinks work well. For Shot Chess specifically, use light spirits. Always have water available and pace yourself — board games can last hours.
How many people can play board game drinking games?
It depends on the base game: Chess, Checkers, Battleship, and Connect Four are 2 players. Scrabble, Sorry!, and Game of Life support 2-4. Uno can handle up to 10. Drunk Jenga works for 2-8+. For large groups (6+), Drunk Jenga, Uno, and Trivial Pursuit are your best bets.
Remember: drink responsibly, know your limits, and never drink and drive. These games are meant to enhance your board game night, not replace good judgment. Keep water and snacks handy, and look out for each other. 🎲🍻
